‘Learning infrastructure can improve performance’

Ntcheu Bwanje South legislator Alexander Mwisho Chilikumtima of UTM Party says good learning infrastructure can improve performance during examinations.

He said this on Friday at Chimvano Primary School during the launch of the construction of a K45 million school block using Constituency Development Fund.

Chilikumtima said it was sad that Ntcheu performed poorly in the 2022 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examinations.

He said: “It is worrisome that we are performing poorly on national examinations despite several interventions.

“Adequate classroom blocks are critical in addressing the challenge as it will motivate learners to work hard in class.”

In her remarks, Ntcheu district coordinating primary school adviser Lucy Mbite commended the parliamentarian for the initiative.

She said the school has over 700 learners against eight classrooms.

“According to the school’s enrolment, it was supposed to have 12 classrooms. The new classroom block will also help to increase enrolment at the school,” she said.

Sub-Traditional Authority Mkutumula assured stakeholders that she will support the implementation of the initiative.

“I will mobilise my subjects to contribute 25 percent of materials towards construction works,” she said.

The contractor M.Valentines is expected to hand over the classroom block after 90 days from November 1 2022.
